Psycho Beach Party Friday June 22nd & Saturday June 23rd, 2007 at 8pm.
The James Tolin Memorial Fund is celebrating its Fifth Anniversary this coming June and, as part of our annual fund-raising event, we will be presenting Charles Busch's hilarious Beach Blanket spoof, "Psycho Beach Party" on Friday June 22nd and Saturday June 23rd, 2007. Directed by Brian Bara "Psycho Beach Party" takes on everything from Frankie and Annette to pyschological thrillers to gender-bending taboos and more. Hang ten with Chicklet; Kanaka; Star Cat; Provoloney; YoYo and the rest of the gang down in Malibu, circa 1962, as they try to figure out who is attacking and shaving ALL the hair off of innocent beach-goers. Originally starring the author as surfer-babe-wannabe, Chicklet, "Psycho Beach Party" has also been adapted into an hilarious film starring Lauren Ambrose of "Six Feet Under" and Thomas Gibson of "Dharma & Greg" and "Criminal Minds." Playwright Charles Busch is probably best known as the author of the long-running Off-Broadway hit, "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom" and more recently, the Tony Award-nominated Broadway smash, "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife." Opening night festivities will include a Red-Carpet Gala, featuring local celebrities and politicians; past JTMF participants; celebrity look-alikes; a luau-themed reception and our famous silent auction. The event will be held at the Kelsey Theatre on the campus of Mercer County Community College. As always, funds raised will support the Open Arms Foundation, Graffitti Productions and the James Tolin Memorial Scholarship at MCCC. We know its still early, but this is one event that will be talked about for years to come, so make sure you mark your calendars now. And don't forget to visit www.jtmf.org for updates and info (and you'll get a reminder now and then from me, too).
