This production of A Midsummer Night's Dream retains all of Shakespeare's comedy
and fantastical fairy fun elements, but blended into Midsummer is jazz dancing
fused with Classical Indian Dance (Hindi)elements giving our audiences the
joyous side of Shakespeare mixed with the beauty and excitement of Indian
dancing. Actors and dancers tend to be physical learners, so our production of
Midsummer takes what students are learning in the classroom and physicalizes it
for the stage.
Our audience will look at this production as though they are viewing an exciting
Bollywood production fused with Shakespeare and jazz, but our students will know
that the gestures they are performing date back to over 2,000 years ago. Our
goals are for our students to learn and our audiences to leave the theatre
laughing, mesmerized by the dancing and wanting to know a little bit more about
India's rich performance traditions.
